The honey roasted duck legs are very easy to prepare and bake and the result is really delicious!  With crispy skin and tender, juicy meat, this Honey Roast Duck recipe makes a beautiful holiday main dish but is easy enough for any special occasion or Sunday dinner.

Ingredients:

marinate:

4 cloves garlic, smashed

1-inch knob of ginger, thinly sliced

3/4 tsp Chinese five-spice powder

1/4 tsp finely ground white pepper

1/4 tsp salt

1 stalk green onion, chopped

2 Tbsp light soy sauce

1 Tbsp dark soy sauce

1 Tbsp rice wine or dry sherry

6 duck legs

1 teaspoon sesame seed, optional

Glaze:

  • 2 teaspoons light soy
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon blended sesame oil

Direction:

Step 1:     Mix together the marinate.  Rub duck legs with marinade and place everything along with duck leg into a zip bag.   Marinate for 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator.

Step 2:    Pre-heat the oven to 360 F.  Dry the duck leg’s skin with absorbent paper, pierce the skin.  Place the duck on a baking tray and place in the oven for between 1 hr 15 minutes and 1 hr 30 minutes, until tender. You can check the tenderness with a skewer or the tip of a sharp knife.  While the duck is cooking prepare the glaze. Put honey, soy and half the sesame oil in a bowl and mix well. Baste the duck leg with the glaze approximately 30 minutes before the end of its cooking time. Repeat this a few times over the last half an hour.
