Sichuan Garlic Chili Oil
This is an easy recipe. Use this wonderful homemade garlic chilli oil to add a little something special to your favourite dishes. Dip it, drizzle it, fry in it – if you like a bit of spice you won’t be able to get enough of this delicious oil. This homemade Sichuan Garlic Chili Oil is just what you need to spice up your life and your Asian recipes.
Ingredients
High smoke point neutral flavored oil – 1 cup (such as Extra light olive, canola or peanut oil)
Chinese Chili Flakes – ¾ cup
Sichuan Peppercorns – ¼ cup
Garlic – 8 cloves minced
Salt – ½ teaspoon
Sesame seed — 2 tablespoon
Direction:
Step 1: Use food processor to crash the dry chili peppers or buy chili flakes directly. Mince the garlic. Add salt, sesame seed and garlic to the chili flakes in a heat proof bowl.
Step 2: Heat up the oil in a pan. let the oil reach smoking point. Then turn off the heat and let the oil cool for 5 minutes. Pure the oil in the bowl of chili flakes. Mix a few times.
So if you ever wondered how to make chili oil, it’s as simple as that! When completely cooled, transfer to a jar, and store in the refrigerator. The hot chili oil will keep for up to 6 months when stored this way (always remember to use a clean spoon to dip into the jar!)
