Beef On Toothpicks

I  love steak.  Making steak into a bite-sized appetizer served on a toothpick? Duh, it’s a no-brainer.  This appetizer just might be my all-time favorite.  Plus, these little guys are super easy to make and are perfect for entertaining because you can make them in advance.  You and your guests will be devouring these bite-sized appetizers on a stick.

Ingredients:

  • 350 g Beef (brisket or flank)
  • Some frying oil
  • 20 g Dry chillies
  • 1/2 tbsp Minced garlic
  • 1 tsp Shredded ginger
  • 1 tsp Szechuan peppercorns, ground
  • 1 tbsp Roasted sesame seeds

For marinade:

  • 1-2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chicken bouillon
  • 1/2 tbsp Jiafan rice wine
  • 1 tsp Caster sugar
  • 2 tsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp Dark soya sauce
  • 3/4 tbsp Light soya sauce

Directions:

Step 1:   Clean the beef brisket (or flank), cut into 4cm pieces and pound them into rectangular strips, about 3 mm thick. Chop ginger and garlic and cut the dry chilies into smaller sections.

Step 2:  Set the beef strips in a large bowl and in the marinade ingredients. Mix them until well combined. Place them in the refrigerator and let marinate for 20 minutes. Skewer the beef strips with toothpicks. Heat up a frying pan with oil until very hot and fry the beef until they are just cooked. Drain.

Step 3:  Heat up the same pan with oil drained.  Stir-fry chilies, gingers,  and garlic until fragrant. Return the beef to the pan, then sprinkle ground Szechuan peppercorn and roasted sesame seeds over. Stir-fry until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
